My First DC Visitors!
Annie and Megan came to visit! Annie drove up from Virginia Beach and Megan flew in from Chicago because we all won the lottery... the Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run Lottery, that is!
Packet Pick Up
Packet pick up is in the National Building Museum, which is an amazing place if you haven't been. The inside is a really amazing open space with unique architecture.
Then we were off to the National Portrait Gallery, which is one of my favorite museums in DC. It always has great revolving features and I still love the static displays. This one blew my mind a little bit:
Tiki Bar
Next I took the girls to one of my DC favorites, Farmers, Fishers, Bakers' tiki bar, for a beer and a snack. It was super crowded, as usual, but we hung around long enough and eventually got some seats at the bar.
Farmers, Fishers, Bakers is the sister restaurant of Founding Farmers, and their distinction is their tiki bar. We didn't order any tiki drinks, but we definitely enjoyed watching the bartenders work their magic and create some truly beautiful drinks. One of these days I'll actually order one!
Lost Dog
We headed back to my apartment and regrouped before heading to Lost Dog for dinner. I am fortunate in that Lost Dog is IN MY BUILDING. There is so much dangerous potential here. I love their pizzas, sandwiches and beer. They have an extensive, almost overwhelming menu of delicious food and it's not that expensive. Plus, doesn't everyone love a place that also has a dog and cat rescue foundation? I certainly do! After dinner we went back to my apartment and prepped our gear for the morning since we had an early start.
Cherry Blossom 10 Miler
The Metro wouldn't be running in time for the race, so we took an Uber to the start line. It was chilly! All three of us were in different corrals, but we decided we were just running for fun and not for time. I think my longest training run was... 3 miles? This had the potential to go very poorly. Fortunately for me, it went just fine! This was probably the most fun I have had in a race... ever? The cherry blossoms weren't at peak bloom, but they were pretty close and I'll definitely take it.
Post Race
I honestly have no idea how fast we ran. For once, I didn't check! We wandered around the tidal basin a bit and then went off to Busboys and Poets for post-race brunch.
Busboys and Poets
After the race we went to another DC favorite of mine, Busboys and Poets, for brunch to negate all the calories we burned. They have some stellar Bloody Mary's, and we were definitely in the mood for one.
