Lyon Hall
I finally had a weekend where I wasn’t working both Friday night and Monday morning, and it happened to be the weekend of the Arlington 9/11 Memorial 5K! I hopped down to DC and my buddy Mark picked me up at the airport. We both had long work weeks and were exhausted, so one drink to catch up over and we were out. Saturday morning I caught up with Nina (or as I have been calling her since college, Ninja) and Michelle at Lyon Hall in Clarendon. You should try their brunch and check out their bathroom. Just trust me on the latter – you’ll get it when you do. I was early (shocker) and wandered into Pacers Running Shop to buy a DC running shirt. They won the window shopping game!
Sketchy Wine
After an awesome brunch catching up with some of my favorite people, Mark picked me up to get wine. Silly me thought we were going to buy wine. Instead, we drove to some part of Van Nuys that I’d never been to and went into this shady building basement. Plot of a murder movie, anyone? It turned out to be a wine storage facility and I helped him dig out what he wanted from his inventory. Yes, he has an inventory of wine!
Next it was the 9/11 Memorial 5K, a race I used to do really well in. It was HOTTTT! I have never felt so much like I was going to vomit at the end of a race. I got to see a bunch of my fire department buddies, which was also awesome. At the start of the race I met this girl Mark and I dubbed “Mean Girl” from her running commentary and we ran into her after the race. Turns out her name is Bridget and we are now friends. Ha! Michelle, Hootman, Mark and my roommate from Boston, Kelli, all went to Lebanese Taverna after the race. Another one of my favorites with great people!
Virginia Wineries
Sunday I met up with my brother and we went to some vineyards out in Leesburg. Stone Hill Vineyard had good wine and a fantastic ambiance and view.
The food truck wasn’t working, so we went to Quattro Goomba winery to get pizza, which was pretty good. The vineyard was very family oriented and the wine wasn’t that great, but they did have a delicious wine slushie!
Since the wine wasn’t great we went back to Stone Hill and had a relaxing afternoon.
After some frozen yogurt in downtown Leesburg, it was off to the airport. See you guys next time!
