I got a job interview offer from this company in San Diego, and they graciously booked me the worst flights ever. Ugh. I connected on the way there through Chicago and my departing flight from Chicago was delayed, of course. That meant I had a super late arrival to San Diego and did not get to eat anything because my body thought it was 1am, and I can't sleep on airplanes. I picked up my car and went straight to hotel, which turned out to be fairly nice. Fortunately there is no traffic out of the city at 10pm, so I just went to bed. Exhausted.
My good friend from Cincinnati, Tim, graciously took the morning off of work to come hang out with me since my interview wasn't until 1pm. Thanks! I had huevos rancheros, of course. When in Rome...
After that we found some hipster coffee place where Tim proceeded to order some fancy ridiculous pressed voodoo I don't even know what coffee that cost twice as much and was half as good as my drip coffee. Is that some reverse example of how women have to work twice as hard to be considered half as good...?
I had my interview. I think it went well. The team then took me out to a Ballast Point tasting room where I had half of a delicious sour beer! Traffic built up and I almost missed my flight back. Whoops.
Oh, my flight back. I had a three hour layover in Phoenix, where I got some pork tacos (darn, no fish tacos on this trip!). There were some seriously rude, weird people at the airport bar late at night. One guy kept prodding me with random questions and when he had to leave to board his flight said, "Have a great night, mysterious woman!" Thanks? Shortly thereafter I learned that the my lovely red-eye flight was delayed. Yuck! Do not ever cross the country for less than 24 hours if you can avoid it.
A quick packing review - piss poor this time. Since I was traveling for a job interview I had to bring a suit. I decided to bring my Osprey Porter 46 backpack (which I generally love) and attach my Pack-It Garment Sleeve (also a really awesome piece of travel kit) to the outside. While in theory this sounded good, with all of those delays on the way to San Diego it became annoying. Before my interview I purchased a $30 roller bag and put everything in there. For connecting flights - roller bags. At least now I have a smaller carry on to compliment my larger carry on, a Dakine Carry On Roller 36L (they no longer make this) that I affectionately call my "ugly bag" :)
