United Club is Amazing
On the way down to Virginia Beach I had a layover in Newark. My friend, Mark, had some extra United Club passes that he wasn’t going to be able to use before they expired, so he graciously gave me one. How swanky! I had lunch and then ordered a Bloody Mary before catching my next flight. I sat next to this very nice Danish man traveling for work. He works for a Swiss promotions company and is based in Bangkok. As this was right after the US election, you can guess what we mostly talked about. The international opinion was interesting to hear. Thanks, Mark, for the ticket!
Gluten Free Donuts and Soccer
Annie picked me up at the airport in Norfolk and we went to this cute little Vegan bakery to place a donut order for Charlotte for the weekend. We knew we would all be getting Duck Donuts in the OBX and Char had never had a donut before, so Annie was pumped to find this place!
We picked Noah up at his new school – I can hardly believe he is a kindergartner. We had a little time to chill out and catch up before we had to take Charlotte to her soccer practice. Go, girl!
To The Beach!
Jules came home and we just chilled out since we had to leave fairly early for the OBX the next day. In the morning we picked up the Vegan donuts and were off to the beach! We had an easy drive down and the house was *almost* ready when we got there. Pizza was the dinner of champions that night, and all were pleased. That night after the kiddos went to bed we played Cards Against Humanity. I don’t think any of us have laughed that much in a long time! Here’s the first (ahem, only…) black card I won.
Jammin' in Jammies I had to take a picture of Noah in his morning Star Wars Jammie’s and pearls…
...and Char was entranced with Aladdin.
We hit up the outlet mall, watched some football games, and scouted the start which was conveniently 2 blocks away – perfect! Abby made us an amazing pre-race dinner and then the kiddos were entranced by Aladdin. Gotta love classic Disney! Next we played this alternating writing / picture drawing game, which Annie’s family made up. It’s kind of like telephone with drawing and sentences. It was hilarious! Last we had small bites of Abby’s amazing dessert – sopapilla cheesecake. Those of us running had to hold back!
The Slow Plod
The next morning was half marathon time! The girls were far better trained than I was, so I plodded along and finished in 2 hours, which is slow for me but not bad! We hung around in downtown Manteo for the post race party, and had a beer, then we conveniently took the shuttle back to the start.
The boys had picked up Duck Donuts and Char got her gluten free donuts! We drank some beers and bourbon and utilized our new favorite hashtag, #porchlife.
RaceThread! Post race I also rocked my Race Thread shirt (check it out!), and I had forgotten how much I love calf sleeves! More bourbon and Cards Against Humanity were had, as well. The next morning we packed up in the rain and headed back. I got my Brew Thru koozie ($6 for a koozie!) and we stopped at Weeping Radish Brewery to get some brews. We picked up Sierra, who was quite happy to see us! Poor old girl wouldn’t have been able to do the stairs in the OBX house, so we had to leave her behind. We had some afternoon Kentucky Mules and Noah and I built some Star Wars Lego kits. Annie and I played Bananagrams and sent the kiddos outside for a while. After they went to bed we watched Straight Outta Compton, which if you haven’t seen, you should! In the morning we dropped Noah at school and hit up BadAss Coffee for their amazing breakfast sandwiches. Annie and I also walked away sporting matching hoodies! ORF airport was a breeze except TSA took my wine key. I hate TSA. Back to the frozen tundra of Boston!
